Ludwig Van Beethoven was a prominent composer, conductor, and virtuoso pianist of the Classical and Romantic eras.His parents were Johann Van Beethoven and Maria Madalena Keverich. They baptized Ludwig on the 17th of December, 1770.This leads most people to believe that Ludwig was born on the sixteenth of December since there is no official record of his birth and it was a common occurrence at that time, in his place of birth, to be baptized on the day after birth. He was born in Bonn, Electorate of Cologne, which was a former part of the Holy Roman Empire.
Ludwig Van Beethovens musical career started young, very young at the age of six.Mainly attributable to his father who, through sometimes harsh methods, shaped Beethoven into a musically gifted youth.His father, Johann, was a musician, teacher, and singer who sang in the chapel of the Archbishop of Cologne, whose court was at Bonn.Johann first had Beethoven perform in front of people at the age of seven, even though on posters he was advertised as a six year old.His father thought that saying he was six may entice more viewers since it would be even more impressive to have the skills of a virtuoso pianist at an even younger age.
Despite toying with his musical talents while young, he didnt gain much true notability as a musician until his twenties, at which time he was living in Vienna studying with Joseph Haydn.By studying under Haydn, who studied under Mozart, he had hoped to gain a Mozart flavor in his compositions and playing styles.Though for several years he went widely unnoticed in Vienna, he composed many works that werent published till modern times as works without opus.After several years under Haydn he began to think of himself almost as a successor to the late Mozart, writing with a distinctly Mozartean style.By 1793, Beethoven established a reputation as an improviser, often playing the preludes and fugues of J. S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier.
Also by 1793, he had established a reputation in Vienna as a piano virtuoso, but he apparently withheld works from publication so that their publication in 1795 would have greater impression. Beethoven's first public performance in Vienna was in March 1795, a concert in which he first performed one of his piano concertos.His piano works gained him great attention from many high ranking peoples within Vienna that were looking for a court musician, which means they wished to hire him to play at their homes.Being a court musician was undeniably one of Beethovens most lucrative career paths, even more so than his publishing of original compositions.
Ludwig Van Beethoven is and always will be referred to as a great. He was always original and has inspirited literally millions of musicians since his many works were published.His lifes path proves how dedication and hard practice can make life worthwhile.To think what genius he could have brought the world of music if he had only lived longer and not lost his hearing.Its sad to think about how such a great man could have been cursed with such debilitating illness in consideration of what his life was dedicated to, music.
